This art of duping someone of their money, belongings among
other things started years ago. Most of them were very smart, using it as a
means of making easy money. Some because of necessity while others it was
because of what some would say their genetic code.
The thing to note is that just like the superheroes in the
movies there is always two sides to a coin. In most scenarios there are three
sides to a coin. But let us look at the two sides first. The first way to look
at these common day con artists is as criminals. They dupe people of their hard
earned money because the times are hard. The other side is of those duping the
rich that seem to deserve conning since some of them rob the common people
blind. Some form of justice for them, quid pro quo if you would want to look at
it that way. Though I might say that these type of con artists are rare. They
have to be master minds, and on top of that considered as vigilantes.
Todays, con artists are everywhere. Preying on the wants of
an individual. We all know that the Kenyan people cannot pass up on anything
free. Most individuals motivated by the current economy cannot afford to pass
up anything free. That’s how some of us are lured in. Others are lured in with
the promise of being rich. We cannot let any opportunity to get a better life
pass us. That is how the con men trap you. They bring your desires and dangle
them in front of you like a horseman does to a horse with a carrot.
Some of these cons may look like the real deal, but if they
didn’t then what would be their benefit? That is why a wise man once said,
“When the deal is too good, think twice”. Today I met some people claiming to
be promoting a well-known communications company. They confidently stand somewhere
they know to find people that are in a hurry. This is to ensure you are not
totally focused on what they are doing. This way they tell you things but you
only hear what sounds good.
Some of these cons include: get a free sim card and win a
phone. The sim card has a sticker that contains a piece of paper that tells you
whether you have won the phone or not. The catch here is that if you win the
phone you have to pay for it. They convince you that the offer is great. A
bargain from what you would get from the shops. Remember though, this wasn’t a
sell, it was a free sim card. Now for a person who has no phone and is in need
of one, they would at this point be hooked. They show you a phone that
resembles one from a leading brand. Attractive phone to you and it seems like a
bargain price, why not? But in the hurry, you did not have time to confirm that
the phone was truly an original or not. From getting a free sim card to
spending 3000 shillings on a knock off phone.
Some other cons are more elaborate. The con artists come
dressed as very respectable business men or women. The age, attitude, charisma
will match that of a very successful business man. This type of con artists are
very diligent. They do there research and make sure not leave any stone unturned.
The thing is, they bring to you a very enticing offer. Maybe land (most common
con), house, business among others. The deals look rather harmless and very
profitable. If it is a house or land, they show you plans or titles. These are
usually obtained through corrupt means or are complete fakes.
The only way to survive in this current world is to be as
wise as they are. They are working day and night to ensure they come up with
new and innovative ways to dupe us. The desires we have should not deter us from
working hard. They should motivate us. The need to get them the easy way is
what harms us all. We should all know that nothing good comes easy. If we all
work for what we want, then the con artists will have a hard time. We would be
more appreciative of something we sweat for than something we got for free. So free
yourself from the free things mentality and save yourself free stress.
